Because my dad is not all there. And he has a history of abuse with those two drugs. Memory loss, nodding in and out, etc are symptoms of his behavior.

Those are symptoms of actually being under the influence of something, however, with opiates, it depletes the brains natural dopamines so it is difficult to stabilize mood and pain is unusually intense.
