What would you suggest is the best approach to having a person who is leaving a 30-day drug and alcohol rehab come and live with you?

30 days is not really long enough for a rehab. You need to get them set up with the local AA or NA in your area – they have meetings every night and day. I would suggest that person going atleast once a day. AA or NA will have people that know what that person is going through that they can call at any time if they are feeling the need to use.
Try not to put alot of pressure on this person to hurry up and find a job/place to live/ etc.- Too much stress can cause relapse so take baby steps with new responsibilities. You need to get on the internet and educate yourself about whatever their addiction was. And most of all I would say be as understanding as you can. When this person realizes and starts feeling guilt /pain of things they’ve done that have hurt their family it will be hard for them not to use – that’s how they cover up emotional pain. When they talk about it you need to let them know that it’s good they are making the changes now because they have time to make it up. Good luck to you!
