What is dual diagnosis treatment?

Question by paul r: What is dual diagnosis treatment?
I have a friend who has dual diagnosis and I would like to find out its treatment. He’s been into a drug rehab program before but now, he’s taking drugs again. I am worried that if I don’t get him treated soon, he might get worse. Please help me find out what a dual diagnosis treatment is.

What dual diagnosis means is that he has 2 conditions. His addiction and probably a mental or chemical imbalance. He needs to see a mental health professional immediately. Preferably someone who specializes in addiction. Look in the phone book (addictionologist). Good luck to your friend.

Dual diagnosis happens when a person has both psychiatric disorders and drug abuse disorders. A number of psychiatric disorders may be associated to drug dependence. Some are bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, panic disorders, anxiety attacks, social phobia and narcissistic personality. The symptoms will depend on what kind of disorder there is so knowing each disorder and how it is affected by drug dependence will be helpful.

It’s a good thing that you know what your friend is suffering from because most people just brush it off as some sort of weakness resulting to the disorder being left untreated.

The symptoms of a dual diagnosis patient may vary depending on which disorder is present. Like addiction treatments, a dual diagnosis treatment also has a holistic approach which deals with an individual mentally, physically and spiritually.

I am sure there is a dual diagnosis treatment facility near your area. You can try looking them up via Internet and you’ll find explanations on their dual diagnosis treatments and their contact details as well.

I wish you and your friend the best.
