Rehab for food addiction?

Question by ElsaWinter: Rehab for food addiction?
This is something that I have always wondered. Why is it that there are rehabs for people who suffer from substance and alcohol abuse, but no similar recovery centers for people who suffer from addiction to food? The severity of the addiction itself is exactly similar to that of a drug addiction.

I know that people who suffer from food addiction generally have some underlying emotional disorders that are usually the cause of the food addiction, but eating disorder treatment centers only focus on the deeper issues, and not the food (aka the drug). They do not put anyone on any “diets”, in fact they make you eat. Eat balanced.

But what I AM in need of – is a diet! My health depends on it. I need weight loss not just for vanity, but for true health. I don’t need to just eat normal and balanced. What my body actually needs is to get this excess weight off. I am 5’1 and currently weight 175 lbs. I have put on 40 pounds in less than 12 weeks. I am scared for my health. I have chest pains and my breathing has become more difficult, not to mention my joints… And all of these new health problems are no mystery. Doctors have confirmed it’s because of all the extra weight. Obviously…

I am well aware of eating disorder treatment centers, but I wanted to know if there were any places that exist that force one to eat healthy and diet – and abstain from unhealthy foods. Just as drug rehab force their patients to “get clean”. I can’t seem to find any.

The closest thing that I have found are “fat camps” – or fitness retreats. But the only issue with those places is that they’re optional; you can leave at will and eat whatever you want. These camps and retreats are not “lock down facilities”.

If someone could just let me know if anything like this exists, it would be much appreciated!
By the way – I DO TONS OF EXERCISE. I have a personal trainer and work out on a regular basis. But if the food is not controlled, weight loss will not happen.

I think it’s called fat fighters I mean weight watchers or calorie counting no need for re hab food can be controlled with a strong positive mind also it’s called exercise tbh you seem like you don’t want to participate in excercises so you don’t help yourself how about you start to eat less calories and cut back on some stuff you normally eat and start to loose weight rewarding yourself slowly seing progress is enough to motivate you go that further distance.

You’re mistaken – they do have rehab for food addiction, and any doctor can send you to a dietitian, and there ARE 12 step groups for food addiction, same as any other addict.
