Norco/Tylenol Overdose?

Question by Really Worried: Norco/Tylenol Overdose?
This is my experience with a possible overdose. I have realized I have an addiction problem and am getting help.

I have a high tolerance to hydrocodone. I knew about the 4 gram per day limit on tylenol, but was not aware of the 1 gram per dose.

In the past I have been able to take 10 norco 10/325’s at a time. I did this on Monday May 23. On Tuesday May 24 I took 6 norcos early in the day. Around 7pm I took 3 more norco’s. At 8:30pm I vomited, but otherwise felt fine. Neither day did I get high. At 9pm on the 25th, my stomach felt funny, like I was hungry, so I got something to eat. The next day, my stomach was feeling more weird, not painful. I noticed that my pants were tighter than normal on the 26th. At this point I began to do some research, and now fear that I have damaged my liver.

I began checking daily for yellow eyes and skin and bruises. I never felt any nausea or any other symptoms. I never went to the doctor or emergency room.

Today, my stomach still feels weird, sometimes full and sometimes like I am hungry. I have stopped taking all my medications in the hope that this would not stress my liver and hope that it is re-generating.

According to Wikipedia, after the 5th day of an overdose of tylenol, if you are not dead or in a coma, you should survive with no lasting effects.

I am wondering how long it will take my liver to regenerate?

People, tylenol is dangerous even under the recommended dosage. If you are self medicating, please taper your usage off to avoid withdrawal. Then, take it as prescribed.

I pray every night that I have not killed myself, but I understand why if it does happen.

As I said, I am not taking any medications, especially the Norco’s. I am getting help for my high seeking behavior. It has been 2 weeks and I do not like the way my stomach feels, or trying to watch for other possible effects such as dark colored urine, pale or tarry stools, solemnence, abnormal behavior.

Should there be anything else that I look for?

Thank You for not judging me and please pray for me.
I went to the doctor yesterday and had a liver profile done. The results are in and its good news. Everything (especially ALT and AST) were normal. LDH and GGT were a bit high, but I was told not to worry about those.

When you vomited you could have tightened up back muscles and they are pressing onto the nerves, as they leave the spine, going to your stomach to cause it to release more gastric acid or other pains. You can free up your back muscles and that would get rid of that feeling if this did cause it and here’s how to free up your back muscles:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

I’m glad to see you looked in to the tylenol limit and realized the dangers involved. Much more dangerous than any opiate, natural or man made. They say the true definition of addiction is continuing harmful behavior even after you know how harmful it is. I have known lots of people with drug addictions and few if any of them had the will power needed to just stop because it was bad for them. Usually help or at least a taper period was required. So maybe your problem is not as bad as you think it is.
Your only real solid way to know for sure about liver damage is to do a blood test. You don’t have to ask for anything special, just a regular checkup type blood test. It would be worth the visit to the doctor as the liver is not the only risk with tylenol. It can hit you kidneys and heart as well. So a checkup is not a bad idea.
Something to run by you about the way your stomach feels; have you been pretty normal in your bathroom habits? Opiates are real good at shutting down your bowel. Would a bit of constipation maybe be the cause of your stomach distress? Your liver is located on the left side and it covers a pretty good sized area. That is also the same area that your (transverse) colon comes across your body and makes a turn to go down to your backside (descending colon) so you can’t really go by location. Not ruling anything out, but it sounds more likely than a smoked liver. It’s not a perfect test, but if you feel better or just different when you pass gas or stool…
You may have resumed being regular when you stopped the Norco, but if you got behind, you could still be dealing with a packed colon. Maybe a few days of laxatives and a liquid diet, the same kind of cleaning out process as you’d do for a colon exam may get you caught up. You can also get a fair bit of gas from the process (they have you do an enema too, which may (or may not) introduce air in to your pipes, so don’t be alarmed if you have increased gas and gas pain.
For what it’s worth, as far as the addiction stuff goes, I think you’re doing great. I’ve had chronic back pain for years and I wish everyone could share you’re insights. People don’t realize when you’re dealing with pain, there is no getting high, all you feel is pain relief. People will also give you the evil eye not just for taking tylenol laced drugs like Norco, but they get real fired up when you take something like oxycodone. They don’t want to know about tylenol damage. They don’t care how their fear affects the ability to get pain drugs when there is a legitimate need. nor how abusing these drugs affects legitimate patients. But I get the feeling that you get the whole picture and in this sensation driven media age we live in that’s a rare thing. Never lose your compassion for others, it can be a great strength to you.. Wishing you all the best.
