It’s actually called Narcissistic Personality Disorder or NPD but that didn’t fit in the heading.
So if you would enter a psychiatric Hospital due to Narcissistic personality disorder voluntary, in Maryland, could you leave whenever you want or would they make you stay there?
Like if the person would’t be violent towards others or himself, but merely verbally insult others.
I’m asking because my cousin was diagnosed and is considering entering a mental hospital, but he doesn’t want to be locked up for years or even the rest of his life. Only for a month or two maximum.
And if he enters, what would they do to him. How would they treat him? Would they put him under surveillance or therapy, and give him what kind of drugs?
Can he keep personal belongings? Can people visit him?
What kind of hospital would he go to?
His disorder makes him arrogant, rude and manipulative, but I still care for him.
He lives in Maryland, USA by the way, are the laws specific there in any way.
It is pretty extreme, like he acts meganomaniac, manipulative and evil, harming others verbally. Plus he talks in a really absurd way and is very prone to lying.

there is probably a minimum stay required like 3 days…then he might be able to leave against medical advice (ADA) if they don’t think he is ready to leave yet.
if he isnt a threat to himself or others they might not even take him…u have to be evaluated before they will take you, they have strict guidelines you have to meet before being admitted
they would lock up his personal belonging and he would probably have access to them 1-2 times daily
there would more than likely be no camera or surveillance due to privacy issues
find a local hospital with an adult behavioral program that has a psych ward…
sounds more like he would benefit more for an outpatient treatment program than being hospitalized
