ok my bf use to to dip a can a day now he dips 1 or 2 pinches a day or every other day, he is trying to stop dipping for good now and he eats sunflower seeds to stop the craving, is there any other way to stop dipping?

Yes. He has a physical habit AND an addiction. The sunflower seeds are a good idea, but the craving for nicotine needs to be addressed. I quit smoking after 35 years with Chantix (prescription only). It’s foolproof. It ties up the nicotine receptors in the brain so that the craving is gone–it’s just gone–like eating stops hunger pangs. I had tried the patches and gum, but they didn’t work; all they did was prolong the craving. I would get depressed and even suicidal, but Chantix and a little willpower did the trick.
Dipping is very dangerous for buccopharangeal cancers. I got cancer of the tongue last year, had a biopsy (without painkiller) and surgery and still have swelling and pain. It was the single most painful surgery I ever had. I actually got hysterical from the pain on the way to the pharmacy, and I have a high pain tolerance. I also had to go through months of speech therapy. Now I have to go back to the head and neck surgeon again because I have near constant hoarseness, and I’m worried. MAKE him go to the doctor, get Chantix, and nip this in the bud, so to speak. Exercise helps with the craving also, but as long as he stays on the Chantix, he’ll quit–in three weeks or six months. Tell him to wise up.
