The only thing i have found to work is to stop buying sweets. You can’t eat them if you don’t have them available. Its a lot easier to pass them up at the store than it is to pass them up when they are sitting an a bowl next to your chair. I haven’t ever found any substitute that fills that craving for sugar, but snacks like pretzels, nuts, and popcorn work OK and are sometimes filling enough that i don’t need to eat a meal.

The first step has to start with you! No one can make you stop eating sweets, you have to find the will power to stop. After that,
1) Rid your house of all sweets. No chocolate, twinkies, snickers, jelly beans, nothing. Try to include yummy granola bars (special k are really good) that are high in fiber to replace the sweets.

2) Get your family to do this with you. If you are trying to do this and your husband brings home a box of nutter butters, you won’t be able to resist.

3) Don’t kill yourself over it. Try getting a big water bottle and carry it around with you. Every time you ge a craving for a treat, Drink, say, 15-20 ounces of water (my water bottle holds 34 oz.) I’ve been drinking 68 oz a day, and I eat far less and seem to not crave food as much.

4) Don’t kill yourself over it. If after drinking the water and waiting 20 minutes you’re still craving it,
Don’t sit there and wallow in your pain. Go on a long run/bike ride and then when you get home, reward yourself with a MINI snickers. One. Or, if you have to buy the bag (don’t do that) just eat half the regular size.

But remember, YOU have to mak yourself stop.

You could also try making homemade oatmeal cookies. I tried being vegan for a week (failed miserably after 4 days) and made delicious oatmeal cookies with whole grain oats.
Recipe (from top of my head)
2 cups oats
1 cup raisins
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
1 tablespoon shortening
A handful of cinnamon-sugar (the kind you put on toast)

Then put in clumps and bake! It looks kinda like a ball of oats when you put it on the baking sheet, but they turn out crispy and yummy.

This still has sugar in it, but it is much better than a snickers bar. Bake a bunch at once and eat one every time you can’t help but eat something sugar
