Addiction problems, cannot overcome addictions?

Question by Tia: Addiction problems, cannot overcome addictions?
Okay so here’s the thing. I can get really addicted to things from period to period.
First it was facebook. Countless hours of facebooking sometimes all night long. That kept going for a couple of months untill my parents took action and stopped me.
When I finally got over that I started becoming addicted to food. A king of eating disorder made me put a lot of weight because I could not stop eating.
Then, food stopped and videogames began. Today I am kind of addicted in masturbating and I do it all the time.

I have a really addictive personality and I don’t know what to do. I cannot control myself at certain situations and continue do things while knowing they’re bad.
I don’t know If this is psychological or anything and I really have to be addicted to something all the time.
All these things stop me from concentrating on important tasks throughout the day and completing my goals etc.
I’m worried that in the future this behaviour can lead me to worse things and eventually destroy me.

I really need some help and I do not know how to tell anyone.
I would be thankful to hear your advice xxx

The good news is you are not alone, Tia. Many people have an addictive personality. The cause could be biochemical- an excess of dopamine in the brain. It could also be cognitive (learned). Some people are easily addicted because they don’t trust themselves or others as a source of security. Sometimes Addictive personality is really OCD in disguise. The treatment is usually cognitive therapy, sometimes drugs. I’ll leave you a couple links to get started.
