Question by Amber Schoenick: How do I get someone checked into rehab?
I know someone who needs some serious help with addiction and depression issues. This person does not want to admit their problem, and will not go willingly to get help. There are children involved, and I am concerned for the children’s safety. I have already contacted the state health department, but I’m not sure they can help if I do not have proof of drug use or actual abuse.

You can’t do it for them. Rehab is done on one’s own, or can be court ordered.

You can’t really get someone checked into rehab without their consent, unless they have lost or signed over their rights. If said person had an emotional break down with their kids present, or someone around basically – the police could be called and if they find it fit they may be put in a mandatory hold for a psychiatric evaluation. Otherwise, if charged with possession of these drugs, the court could rule for said person to complete a drug course – though most likely they would just face a charge/fine/jail sentence vs help.
All you can do as a concerned person really, is report this behavior to social services at which point an investigation/home check may occur – which could cause her to temporarily lost custody of her children.
It sounds like you’ve tried, but I would really try to help her see things herself before putting the kids in a traumatic situation (not that they’re not now .) Do you know any parents, siblings, etc of this person? Maybe try to get a group together, people to offer support and show the severity of the issue ..
It really depends on the situation and the children though on how you want to handle the situation
