what medication works for Arthritis?

Question by CHARLENE G: what medication works for Arthritis?
Currently my doctor is prescribing me Neurontin, and its not working for my arthritis or the intense pain that I experience the top of my thigh. I am trying to find out what other pain relief might work for this.. I am going to the spine and back pain management center and saw a PA and will actually see her again in 1 month. But I am not sure that she will offer me any alternatives since she didnt do it the first time.

Neurontin or Gabapentin was originally developed to treat epilepsy, and currently is also used to relieve neuropathic pain. Apart from a replacement there are other painkillers available, Celebrex is the only Cox-2 drug still on the market and is prescribed in osteoarthritis treatment. Your Doctor may also try Narcotic pain relievers: These strong pain relievers contain narcotics and are often combined with Tylenol. The drugs work on pain receptors on nerve cells, not on inflammation. There is risk of dependency with these drugs. They include: Darvocet, Darvon, Lorcet, Lortab, Morphine, Oxycontin, Percocet, Tylenol with Codeine, and Vicodin.
